Strong performances by CCC'ers at the Metroplex Sprint Tri This weekend, Jamie, Sarah, and I battled the wind at Joe Pool Lake and competed at the Metroplex Sprint Tri. Jamie, the craziest of all, competed in both races: Saturday AND Sunday! Sarah and I only today. And well... let's just say that the CCC was honorably represented.
Jamie pulled off the double with two AMAZING performances. On Saturday, he completed the 400 meter swim, 11 mile ride, and 2 mile run in 49:43. He swam in 6:58, rode in 26:48 averaging 24.2mph (yes... you read correctly 24.2 @#$%#$!!! miles per hour!!!), and ran in 13.52 averaging 6:56 per mile. He was THIRD in his age group and FIFTH overall. If this wasn't good enough, he came back today for another dose of speed. And yes... he was even faster improving his time 5 seconds. He finished in 49:38. He swam in 7:08, rode in 27:27 averaging 24mph, and ran in 13:22 averaging 6:41 per mile. The competition was much tougher on Saturday. Jamie took FOURTH place in his age group and ELEVENTH overall.
I also did very well, but not as well as Jamie. I finished 51 seconds behind Jamie in 50:38. I swam in 6:54, rode in 28:06 averaging 23.5mph, and ran in 13:26 averaging 6:43 per mile. I am very happy with my bike split and extremely happy to have been able to run at a decent pace without my calf bothering me at all. I was SEVENTH in my age group and FIFTEENTH overall. Darn 35-39 age group... it's by far the most competitive of all!
After this fun time together Jamie and I have decided that we need to hit the road and trails together more often, we definitely are in shape to help each other getting in even better shape. I have to say, my hat off to Jamie. He is an extremely strong rider... but from now on he has no excuses for not riding up front on Big Steamer nights (jejeje). I hope he helps me get as fast as him on the bike and hope that my calf troubles are finally over so I can get back into my best running form and help Jamie improve as well.
Jokes apart, after the race we both agreed that riding on Tuesdays and Thursdays has definitely paid off. So thank you all for helping us get stronger and stronger on our bikes. I honestly think that both of our bike splits show how strong the CCC is getting.
Now... if you think what we both did was decent, of course, Sarah, as usual, had to outdo us. And let me remind you all, that this is only her second triathlon ever! She finished in 58:54. Swam (kicking both Jamie's and my rears) in a blazing 6:37. She was fourth out of the water! Rode in 34:50, averaging 18.9mph... a whopping 2.4mph faster than on her first triathlon. And ran in 14:47 averaging a slow 7:24 per mile for her (she told me after the race the fast bike really took a toll). She anyhow managed to WIN her age group with a FIVE minute margin and placed EIGHT overall.
So there you have it. The CCC Tri team at its best. And of course, the comradery as usual was great. It was incredible to cheer and be cheered for out in the course. Jamie, besides being a fierce competitor, is a great sport... honoring CCC's tradition.
So what Scottie, are we ready to order some CCC one piece and two piece TRI suits???

Great write up Francisco, you and Sarah make for one fast family. It was a lot of fun to compete with friendly faces. Congratulations to Sarah on the age group win! That is awesome! Funny side note to anyone reading this: Francisco and I are in the water waiting for the horn to get our wave started. As we are waiting he proudly yells "Jamie look Sarah is the fourth person out of the water!" We should all have such great cheerleaders. Her wave was the first to go and like Francisco said she is just plain fast.
I agree on the tri racing gear. However, you are blowing my cover on the BS rides. I like hanging out in the back. The rides are so fast it still doesn't make a difference. I generally wind up dying at the end anyway.
Hopefully we will get some more CCC representation at the Tri at TWU.

HUGE congratulations to all three of you.
Stomping the field by FIVE MINUTES in pretty amazing, but of course just competing in an event like this is pretty amazing, too.
Great job, y'all!
