Let The Good Dice Roll
The Yellow Train pulled out of the depot at 5:35pm greeted by sunshine and a 20mph wind from the northwest. The tailwind to start the ride was a nice change of pace as the group picked up Stewie and Dice on the way to Shady Shores. Sir Roy and Stewie launched the first salvo of the night on Corinth Parkway as the duo applied some pressure and quickly had a 100 yard gap on the peloton. The Wrench was having none of it, however, and he got on the front and tightened the screws as he reeled the escapees back in. The peloton turned north onto Shady Shores road and back into the headwind. The Wrench and Stewie traded pulls as they flew across Dead Man's Slough. Thoughts turned to the Col de Shady Shores as everyone prepared for the climb that was directly into a 20mph headwind on this night. The pace was steady at the bottom and gradually increased as the peloton began to climb. Sir Roy found his Holy Grail and was the first over the top. The peleton looped through Shady Shores and The Boss attacked in Dinosaur Forest. He quickly had a 200 meter gap and was preparing to hammer the 2nd time up the Col. It was not to be, however, as he was detained by a stop sign and a turning car bringing the group back together. SuzieQ attacked at the bottom of the Col and throttled the pace up to 25mph. Half-way up the hill, however, and there was no runaround left in Sue. Dice spoiled the party and was the first over the top. Two times just wasn't enough and the Yellow Train made one last loop and climb up the col. Halfway to the summit, The Wrench put his socket into the wind and went to the front. The Boss got on his wheel and they went over the top 1 and 2. The peloton headed south now on Garza road as The Boss went to the front and steadied the pace at 24mph. They turned right onto Shady Shores road and SuzieQ went to the front and blasted down Dead Man's Slough. She lingered on the front just a little to long and was dropped as the pace accelerated up the rolling hills. The battle moved west onto Shady Shores road. The pace was steady but calm as no one was willing to do all the work into the headwind finish. Finally Thraser gets on the front and stokes the coal. Stewie and Sir Roy are quick to follow with the rest of the peloton looking for shelter. 1/4 mile to paydirt and Thrasher says "No Mas" as he stops working. Stewie pulls through with Dice and Scooter getting twitchy. Dice launches himself and has a small gap on Scooter but is unable to drop him. The Boss pulls around Sir Roy and starts cranking. Dice is strongest on this night and crosses the line in first. The Boss throws his bike at the line and nips Scooter for second. CCC Crit Standings Big Rick - 26 points The Boss - 23 points Dice - 12 points The Cannibal - 11 points Hollywood - 8 points Scooter - 4 points Gentle Ben - 3 points Tornado Tom - 3 points Thrasher Tim - 2 points Gramps - 2 points The Wrench - 1 point

Scottie: Great job on the recap of the ride as always. :D Not that it matters or anything, but Stewie and I were trading pulls on Shady Shores across Dead Man’s Slough. When we turned into Cielo Ranch, that’s where the Wrench came to the front and turned up the screws about 3 notches. As for no one willing to do the work, if I remember correctly I pulled the entire way down Corinth Parkway into the wind to the start of the sprint as any good domestic would do and turned it over to the sprinters (Just giving you a hard time Scottie). Hope everyone enjoyed the ride as much as I did! 8) By, the way what happened to Dan?

I think I need to hire an assistant. When I am at the back and we have a big group I can't always see what is going on.... Dan got shredded in Cielo Ranch when we turned back into the wind. We need to get him off that unicycle and onto a more aggressive frame. :)

I raise my glass to Tim, who gives fantastic leadouts, and all the others who toil thanklessly at the front pulling us wheel sucking sprinters along. Arriba, abajo, al centro, a dentro!

Been working special diet this week thats low carb. Knew that I'd burn out pretty quick, but I'm dropping some pounds. Still managed to get in 21 miles and kept it up at 17.5. Spent some time at Blue Bonnet today looking at bikes and talking with the folks there. Before the end of the month I'm going to settle on something new. As I'm progressing in getting lighter and stronger, I'd hate for anybody to be beat by a bike thats older than they are. How many more runs before we run out of daylight?
