Gramps Turns Back The Clock On an afternoon Fed Exed straight from Southern California, Scott (Gramps) Lent proved there is plenty of pep still left in his giddy-up.
There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the temp was 83 degrees as the Yellow Train rolled out of Ronny Crownover on Tuesday afternoon. It was a perfect afternoon for a bike ride.
The peleton made their way through Corinth and turned north towards Shady Shores at a nice steady pace of 22mph. Snaking their way through Cielo Ranch, the group turned north with their sights set on the Col de Shady Shores. It was grouppo compatto at the bottom and no one seemed in any hurry to get to the top. All of a sudden, like a bolt of lightning on a summer night, Gramps jumped out of his rocking chair and drilled it. He immediately had a gap of 30 yards.
Big Rick decided he couldn't resist the rabbit, and started picking up the pace with The Boss on his wheel. Just as it appeared Gramps was going to go over the top first, Big Rick refused to respect his elder and crashes the party going over the top first.
Around the loop they sped as they headed for a repeat of the climb up the Col. This time Gramps waited until the group was about 3/4 of the way to the top before he put the hammer down. This time he would not be denied and was the first over the top.
The group ended their time in Shady Shores with a spin up Cowpattie Hill. The Boss attacked over the top of the hill and quickly had a gap of 50 yards. However, this wasn't his night as he quickly shut down the boiler room and was reeled back into the bunch. Roy put in another attack down Shady Shores road but couldn't make it stick. It would come down to a sprint finish.
With the wind blowing from the north, the group was in no hurry as they pedaled down Corinth Parkway towards the finish and into a nasty head wind. Thrasher came to the front and kept the tempo up. Turning west and heading into a crosswind finish, Big Rick went to the front and set the pace.
Scooter was locked on his wheel and Dice followed. Thrasher, The Boss and Gramps sat in their draft. With less than a kilometer to the finish, Dice jumps and gaps Big Rick and Scooter. The peloton is shattered as the north wind forces the boys all over the road. The wind takes it toll as Dice has gone too early and is dying a slow death.
Big Rick sprints past Rick but Scooter is still on his wheel. They hit the line and Rick holds on for the win with Scooter a strong second. Dice holds on for 3rd.

Had my best Tuesday night ride ever. Almost lost it on the first hill when I tried to get up the hill on the Thrashers wheel. He picked the pace up to a gear that I couldn't hang with. On the back side of the hill I rode like bat out of hell to catch up and somehow did. I housed myself in the middle of the pack for the next ride up. Next time up I got behind some red wheels and focus on staying right there. I started to lose it and but finally looked up and we were at the top. Hung with the group until cow pattie hill, the group surged and my legs surrender. I was able to keep y'all in sight for a while. At the end of the day I had an average speed of 18.6. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeha.
