Big Steamer September 4th - Der Kaiser Halte Kurz
SAG WAGON NEWS CORINTH-After the Tuesday Big Steamer ride was neutralized because of high winds, the large peloton was eager to ride on Thursday evening. The weather was terrific as temperatures in the mid eighties and light north winds provided a hint of the approaching fall season. The bunch spun easily through Shady Shores as speeds hovered around 22mph. No one was in the mood to attack which kept the peloton together until the first time up the Col de Shady Shores. Big Steamer moved to the front and accelerated to 23mph which stretched the elastic and forced a couple of riders off the back. The second and final time up the Col saw The Cannibal on the front as he was able to shed one or two more riders off the back reducing the pack size down to 13 or so riders. The group turned onto Corinth Parkway and headed for home. Big Steamer pulled into the north wind as everyone tried to work out where they needed to be to con-*test*-('") the sprint. Grizzly, Big Steamer and The Boss were three wide down Corinth Parkway with about ¼ of a mile to the finish. Der Kaiser stomped on his pedals and shot around the outside as he gapped the group. Grizzly tried to respond along with the Big Steamer and DC also moved up. Der Kasier looked like he was going to be able to hold on for the win but for some reason he sat up with about 20 yards left to the finish line. Perhaps his early jump had left him winded or maybe his German beer stein bottle holder was weighing him down. Whatever the reason, the slow down allowed Big Steamer to come around and take the victory on the line. The Cannibal snuck in for second and DC took third. Things are really getting tight as the Big Steamer series begins the last ¼ of the season.
