Sag Wagon News CORINTH-Hopefully the weather this week is not a sign of things to come this summer. The temperature on Tuesday evening was 98 degrees and the wind was howling out of the south. The brutal conditions didn’t keep many folks away though as 22 riders, including the Black Widow, showed up at the depot to con-*test*-('") the Big Steamer. The first pedals were cranked in anger as the peloton turned north onto Shady Shores road and descended towards Dead Man’s Slough. Danimal took a flyer off the front and it lasted for about 10 yards before the Mexican Professor showed the student who was boss and slammed the door shut. The tailwind felt nice and the Yellow Train flew across the lake at 29mph. They turned into Cielo Ranch and Stearns hammered off the front and The Boss went with him. Stearns, who was wearing his Tony Hawk style shorts, asked the Boss for some help but no help was coming and The Cannibal swallowed them up. Down Garza Lane they headed and the Mexican Professor, Ricky Bobby and The Cannibal were free. They had a 10 second advantage but Gentle Ben got nervous and single handily brought them back. Once the group was all together again, White Walls decided he wanted to up the pace and up the pace he did. He gunned it towards Cowpattie Hill and the group crested the climb at 31mph as they swept through the Brown Terrace turn. W2 kept the pressure on as they climbed the Col for the first time and over the top 14 riders were forced to walk the plank and only eight were left to battle it out. The Mexican Professor and White Walls were the first over the Col de Shady Shores the final time and got away from the group at the stop sign because of a passing car. They did the gentlemanly thing though and did not take advantage as the remaining six riders bridged on Lakeshore road. They turned into the 25mph headwind and MP stayed on the front until the bottom of Cowpattie Hill and The Cannibal took over from there pulling the group along at 20mph into the brutal headwind. They continued south on Shady Shores road and prepared for the sprint finish. The pack of eight hummed down Corinth Parkway at 28mph as the tailwind gave the group a chance to take a drink and catch their collective breath. However, Corinth Parkway curves west and soon they were dealing with a 25 – 30 mph crosswind. The Mexican Professor was again on the front along with White Walls and Dang it Dake. With about ½ mile to the finish, Gentle Ben awoke from his hibernation and motors. Dang it Dake goes with him along the left side and Der Kaiser jumps around The Boss on the right side. The attack by Gentle Ben has exploded the field and only five are left with a chance for the points as White Walls finally pops. Der Kaiser is continuing to drive and is looking strong as he overtakes GB. Scroggs hammers past Gentle Ben as well and is five yards ahead of Big Steamer, The Cannibal and The Boss. Der Kaiser shows he is on form still and takes his second consecutive BS victory. Scoggs is able to hold on for second and finishes five seconds behind the German. Big Steamer holds off The Boss and The Cannibal for third and the valuable point.
