Big Steamer June 26th - The Cannibal Cleans His Plate
SAG WAGON NEWS CORINTH-The Big Steamer on Thursday evening started off really fast, slowed towards the middle and heated up again at the finish. A group of 16 or so riders were on hand to vie for Steamer points. The pace was swift down Dobbs Lane and Shady Shores drive and got even faster as Big Steamer rumbled off the front in Cielo Ranch holding 25 mph as some gaps started to appear in the field. They sped towards Cowpattie Hill and went over the top descending at 30mph and rolling through Brown Terrace. Just as they crested T-Rex hill, it was game over for four riders as broken glass caused them to puncture ending their dreams for victory early. (The glass has since been swept clean). As the peloton crested the Col for the first time, the lead group was down to seven riders. The paced eased considerably for the next six or seven miles as speeds hovered around 22mph or so. Things began to get heated again through Dead Man’s Slough when Whitewalls jumped off the front with Dangitdake following. They pounded into the wind trying to get away but is was of no use as the single file pace line kept them in check. They hit Corinth Parkway and Big Steamer, Whitewalls, Tornado Tom, The Cannibal, Boss, Dangitdake and Scooter are still in contention for the win. They round the curve with just one mile left and Whitewalls is burying himself on the front. The crosswind is causing havoc in the small group as everyone tries to sit on a wheel and stay out of the breeze. Dangitdake jumps first and The Cannibal quickly reacts and goes with him. Big Steamer joins them and The Boss moves up on the inside trying to grab a wheel. 100 meters to the finish and DID is digging deep but The Cannibal is gaining. Big Steamer is holding on and The Boss is moving up fast on the inside. Cannibal digs deep into his courage suitcase and flies across the line for the victory while DID takes second and BS nips The Boss by half a wheel. Sag Wagon News caught up with The Boss after the race for a quick reaction. “I’m sick and tired of getting fourth place behind EL Grande Steamer” grumbled the little tyrant. “This is the fifth time this season I’ve finished in 4th place behind the BS and I’m mad as hell and not going to take it anymore." With that, the Boss Man stormed into the team RV not to be seen again.
