Big Steamer June 17th - Nullified
Deuce had a mechanical mishap during the Big Steamer this evening and was unable to continue riding. Most of the group stopped to assist so the ride has been nullified. Just to clarify for those that are new to the Big Steamer....if somone flats, throws a chain or has a minor mishap that does not require assistance, the peleton will continue to ride. If a rider goes down or has a serious mechanical issue that requires assistance, the ride will normally be neutralized...especially if there is a split in the group. IS everything ok? Rider? Bike?

Deuce is fine...a spoke on his rear wheel basically split in half. No one went down or anything like that. Jacque the Ripper sagged him and Scooter (flat) back to Crownover.

"Just to clarify for those that are new to the Big Steamer....if somone flats, throws a chain or has a minor mishap that does not require assistance, the peleton will continue to ride. If a rider goes down or has a serious mechanical issue that requires assistance, the ride will normally be neutralized... especially if there is a split in the group." By way of formalizing this a bit--or reducing the element of individual judgment--perhaps we should take "requires assistance" to mean "is not able to continue, or to continue safely, on the bike." This admittedly modest change stands to help us conceptualize Scott's and Scooter's mishaps more clearly. Scott couldn't continue; he needed St. Jack's Sagservice; the group had split; the results were nullified. Right call, Boss! Scooter could (and did, by the by) continue after tending to a routine problem; the results were not nullified because of his flat. Right call, Boss! Tell you what, though: back there in Oldmanland, the ride was plenty zippy, points or not. More 80-degree Tuesday nights, please! Pointless exercise or not (to pun), I'd still like to know who came in first from the lead/breakaway group and who came in first from the poursuivants, i.e., those relentless young superfreaks who stomped the crud out of me, Jimmy, and Mike. Do tell. . . .

The poursuivants almost got me but I was just able to hold them off..... I think their order of finish was Whitewalls, DC and then Big Steamer. DangitDake and Dewey Decimal were up there as well.
