Big Steamer July 29th Would You Like Fries With That Attack SAG WAGON NEWS
CORINTH-A cold front moved through Corinth on Tuesday evening droping the tempetature down to a balmy 98 degrees for the Big Steamer ride. The large group pedaled easily down Meadowview Lane and crossed over I-35 onto the battlefield.
The MP boys (Mexican Professor and Michael Patrick) took the lead on Corinth Parkway as they pulled the peloton along at 21mph. Dang it Dake got bored with the pace and jumped off the front. The Cannibal was also feeling frisky and went with him. The group responded to the higher pace and was altogether all the way through Cielo Ranch.
Once the peloton exited Cielo Ranch, the first pedals were turned in anger. Stearns, The Cannibal and The Boss each took a turn on the front as they kept the pace high up and over Cowpattie Hill. The pace was 24mph up the Col de Shady Shores as the group began to splinter. There was an incident on the climb as Daniel went down taking the Wrench out as well. Luckily no one was hurt and both riders came away with only some road rash. The entire peleton stopped and the Mexican Professor called in the Sag Wagon and his wife Sarah came out and drove Daniel back to Crownover because his tire had blown. The Wrench was able to continue the ride.
The group restarted and hit the Col for the second time. Stewie set a tough pace up the climb but his Hemi backfired 3/4 of the way to the top and defaulted faster than a Freddie Mac home loan. Over the top and the Mexican Professor was back on the front leading the group around Garza curve.
At the bottom of Cowpattie Hill, the China Man attacked and Stearns went with him. They got a five second gap before the Mexican Professor thumbed his nose at the Beijing Olympics and chased the China Man and Stearns down. By now, the bunch had been reduced to 10 or so as they pedaled through Dead Man's Slough. Mexican Professor was drilling it down the straightaway and had opend up a slight gap as Dang it Dake and The Boss decided not to pull him back. I'm Loving It was having none of it though and shut the break down as he accelerated to 31mph.
The group turned onto Corinth Parkway as they headed for home. The Mexican Professor continued to dangle out front and The Boss stepped on the throttle and went after him. No one else was chasing so MP and The Boss stayed on the gas and had a slight gap and they increased the speed to 30mph. As they turned westerly The Cannibal was driving and finally got onto Scottie's wheel. With about 1/4 mile to the money line, MP had nothing left to give and pulled off. About this time, I'm Lovin It put his head down and made his $2,000 wheels earn their paycheck as he attacked. He quickly had a 10 meter gap as Dang it Dake and The Cannibal went around The Boss trying to bring him back. No one was bringing I'm Loving It back into the fold and he held on for the convincing win. The Cannibal powered his way to second with Dang it Dake finishing 3rd. The Boss was left crying about his eighth 4th place finish of the season.

Hey Scottie, quick question: Should last night's ride be neutralized?
I ask because I was reviewing the forum and saw the post made for the June 17th Big Steamer when a rider popped a spoke and the peleton stopped. You posted, "...Just to clarify for those that are new to the Big Steamer....if somone flats, throws a chain or has a minor mishap that does not require assistance, the peleton will continue to ride. If a rider goes down or has a serious mechanical issue that requires assistance, the ride will normally be neutralized...especially if there is a split in the group."
For the better part the group didn't split since most everyone, except the 2 or 3 that did continue on, stopped to check-in and assist the crash participants, but two riders did go down.
I'm not trying to be nit-picky just trying to get a good understanding since I still consider myself novice.
Thanks,
Jeff

Normally we would have neutralized but since the entire peleton stopped and re-started all together, I didn't see a reason to do that.....especially since there was no breakaway up the road.

Ok, thanks.
