Big Steamer July 10th - Cannibal Cleans Up SAG WAGON NEWS
CORINTH-Another hot and breezy evening greeted the 22 Big Steamers on Thursday evening at the Ronny Crownover depot. It was a relatively easy pace of 21mph as the riders relaxed down Corinth Parkway. Apparently Danimal missed his rabies vaccination last month as he was foaming at the mouth to get off the front. Get off the front he did down Dobbs Lane and he had a 15 second gap straightaway. Picasso blew through the Shady Shores stop sign and tried to get on terms with Danimal but never could get on his wheel. Grizzly decided to get the peloton out of its slumber and blitzed through Dead Man’s Slough as the peloton pulled an Old Yeller on Danimal.
The BP boys (Grizzly and White Walls) started mashing on the pedals in Cielo Ranch as they kept the tempo up through the winding lakeside neighborhood. The Cannibal, Whitewalls and Grizzly continued to ratchet the pressure up on Shady Shores road. Cresting the top of Cowpattie Hill the speed was 28.5mph and some tongues in the back of the peloton were beginning to drag.
The pack arrived at the bottom of the Col de Shady Shores all together and climbed to where eagles soar at 22.5mph. Over the top, 13 riders remained (DC, Big Steamer, The Boss, Rose Peddler, Tornado Tom, White Walls, Grizzly, The Other Other Scott, Cannibal. Thrasher, Wrench, Scooter, and Bianchi Ben. Please note a nickname change for Ben from Gentle Ben to Bianchi Ben as he was riding a new Italian race horse tonight. The second time up the Col was also uneventful. Big Steamer kept the pace high but there were no attacks.
Around the loop of pain a final time and the Bicycle Path boys remain on the front. The bunch turns south onto Garza Lane and head toward Cowpattie Hill. The Cannibal moves out front and drives the peloton over Cowpattie Hill and into a stiff south wind at 21mph. The tempo remains up for the next five miles and the bunch of 13 hit Corinth Parkway all together.
There is no organization down the finishing parkway but the speed still hovers around 27mph. Finally, White Walls jumps into the lead and opens the throttle. Grizzly is on his wheel and a long line of others following. White Walls is giving it everything and begins to run out of gas with about 1.5k to the line. Riders are getting antsy now but no one wants to put their nose in the wind so they continue to sit. Finally, Big Steamer jumps and stokes his boiler taking Tornado with him. The speed is quickly up to 30mph with Big Steamer, Grizzly, and DC in the lead with Boss, Cannibal and Ben just behind. The Big Steamer appears to have jumped to early and begins to lose some steam. Grizzly moves past him and Bianchi Ben moves up while DC calls it a night.
The Boss moves up to the wheel of BS and the Cannibal sits on the outside. It is going to be a drag race to the finish. Grizzly gases it and sits in front just 50 meters from the line. The Cannibal guns it on the outside and is in perfect positon and he flies on the outside and nips Grizzly for the win. BB whips his horse and hangs on for third.

Gonna get them shots and hang with the group next week. Great write-up as usual.
Got to visit with Jack at the finish line. Good to see him come out and support the ride. He also had the best water I've had in a long time. Or at least thats what it seemed like at the time. Nice cold water after a fast ride what more could a hot rider ask for. Thanks Jack
