Big Steamer - Blowin' in the Wind?
I just heard the roof above the loading dock at the library buckle from the wind. It's been roaring like a lion all day long. I don't need a weatherman to know how hard the wind blows (apologies to Mr. Dylan), so I think I'll sit out today's Steamer. Be careful out there if y'all ride.

Yea the wind is brutal...we may need to neutralize the Big Steamer today. I guess we can decide at the start.....

Just checked with the weatherman. Sustained winds are 27mph, gusts are up to 45mph. Dang.

I know this posting might be too late... I rode in the morning and brutal doesn't describe how bad the wind was. I was almost thrown of my bike several times, especially when I was down on my aerobars. I did part of the horse county ride after going up Hilltop. Going against the wind I could barely get to 12mph. Going with the wind I was easily cruising over 33mph. It was actually quite fun... until I had to ride with the wind blowing on my sides, then it actually got quite scary. I cut my ride short and headed home. And of course, I finished riding at 7:30am and the wind wasn't half as crazy. I'm sorry, I should've posted earlier. I hope that all of you who actually did ride today at Big Steamer made it back home safe and sound. Unfortunatley the weather forecast doesn't show any wind improvement until Saturday. Let's just hope Jamie, Sarah, and I don't get blown away from our bikes on our races this weekend. Wish us luck!

I almost got blown off the track between turns 3 and 4, and at one point on the front stretch a gust hit me like a giant baseball bat. I went home with less than 30 laps, and zero sprint efforts, jumps, etc. My son got two laps around the apron though...:)

The Big Steamer was neutralized at the start tonight and no points were up for grabs. The wind was just to strong for safe racing... Everyone who came out tonight received one point for making the effort....if I missed someone just shoot me an email. Remember next week is a recovery week.
